Ellaberry Gardens' 1st Open House!!! Mark Your Calendars Now!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone is cordially invited to our place on Sunday, September 12th! We'll "open up" at 2pm for those who just want to wander and visit and maybe ask a question or two. We'll have a pot luck supper at 6pm for those who really want to linger! Come tour the gardens, ask about raising chickens in the city, get to know some other folks from the area who are interested in growing food, share a meal and relax around the fire pit! Bring your spouse, your partner, your friends, your neighbors and your kiddos but no pets, please. If you think you might be coming, drop me an email so I can make sure we don't run out of cold drinks...ellaberrygardens@yahoo.com.
Welcome to Ellaberry Gardens!
I'm Jenny Thompson and I'm glad you're here! There's so many exciting things about urban homesteading that I want to share with you! I want to spread the word about urban homesteading and how we can all be so much more self-sufficient in urban areas than we ever thought possible! We're trying our hand at it on a little less than 1/5 of an acre right in the middle of an average neighborhood and you can too!
I've been vegetable, fruit and herb gardening in an urban setting to help feed my family of six since 2003. I also grow native flowers, perennial flowers for birds and butterlifes and honeybees, and a few annuals that I just think are pretty and/or are edible. We keep a small flock of backyard chickens to provide us with fresh eggs.
I offer edible garden and permaculture design and consultation, seasonal gardening classes, a place to buy gardening books and a place to buy some sweet, inexpensive and handmade gifts for yourself or others, a monthly newsletter, and recipes for using up your garden produce, some home dairying and even a few for wild foraged foods. I'm also a proud producer in the Oklahoma Food Cooperative!
I'm excited to share our experiences with you. I'm documenting our harvests online as of 2010 so you can see what's actually growing on around here!
Urban homesteading is hard but glorious work and sometimes I wonder what I was thinking but I sure have fun!
Get comfy and take a look around! I hope to get to know you soon!
Happy growing!
